Password Protect Folders using Webshell

  1. Login to your Control panel

  2. Click on “Webshell3” under quick access

  3. Click on “Protect” at the top of the Webshell3 main page.  The protect wizard will come up.
     

  4. Click on the plus arrow next to your domain until you find the folder you want to protect and then click on the folder name

  5. The next option is the message you will receive when the login window appears.  To use “Only for authorized personnel” just click next.

  6. This screen is where you will setup and/or edit users.  The first time you protect a folder the default option to save the password file is at /.htmaster/.ok_user.  Which is on your root directory not available to the public.  To edit the users for this click on the “edit” button to the right of the text box.

  7. From this screen you can view the current users in the ok.user file and remove or edit them.  To add a new user click on “add” at the top and enter in the username and password, then click “save” It will then take you back to the main user file.  When your finished with this click “Close” at the top and it will bring you back to the main protect wizard and click “next”

  8. The next screen is used for setting up groups associated with your users.  This is optional, but if you want to have them entire in a filename and click edit and the setup on this is very much like the username menu

  9. The next option is for setting up which user you want to have access to this page.  If you want all users in the ok.user file that you created on step 6 then keep the default option “valid-user” in the line and click next.  If you want only some users to see it then type in “user Karen rod fred” where Karen rod fred is the actual names of the usernames you want to have access to. Then click next.

  10. The next screen is where you can allow and deny users based on Where they are/ip addresses etc.  Please click on the “help” link at the bottom for more information on how this works.  This is an optional page.  Then click next.

  11. This last page is just to verify all the information.  Click “save” to finish it.  Then at the bottom left click the red ‘X’ to close out of the wizard.
